One interesting fact about Combivent is that it was the first combination inhaler approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of COPD. It is also available in a respimat inhaler device, which delivers the medication in a slow-moving mist rather than a traditional aerosol spray. Combivent is typically used as a rescue inhaler to relieve sudden symptoms of COPD, such as wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath. However, it may also be used on a regular schedule for some individuals with more severe COPD symptoms.

One interesting fact about Combivent is that it was developed through a collaboration between two pharmaceutical companies: Boehringer Ingelheim and Pfizer. The two companies worked together to combine their respective medications, ipratropium bromide and albuterol sulfate, into a single inhaler for the treatment of COPD. Another interesting aspect of Combivent is that it was the first medication to use a combination of anticholinergic and bronchodilator medications in a single inhaler. This approach was a significant advancement in the treatment of COPD, as it allowed for faster and more effective relief of symptoms than using either medication alone. Additionally, Combivent is available in a unique Respimat inhaler device, which uses a slow-moving mist to deliver the medication. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals who have difficulty using traditional inhaler devices, such as those with arthritis or other hand or wrist conditions. Overall, Combivent is an innovative medication that combines two different types of medications in a single inhaler for the treatment of COPD. Its development through collaboration between two pharmaceutical companies and its unique delivery device make it an interesting and important medication in the field of respiratory medicine.

Combivent Inhaler

Common use of Combivent

Combivent contains two active substances: ipratropium bromide (Atrovent) and Levosalbutamol. Ipratropium blocks m-cholinoreceptors of smooth muscles in the bronchi and treacheas, suppresses reflect constriction of bronchis, decreases secretion of the mucous membrane in the respiratory tract. The drug is used in treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with spasm of the airways. Effect of bronchodilators consists in dilatation and enlargement of the airways by relaxing the muscles of respiratory tract. Ipatropium works different way, it has a structural similarity with acetylcholine and becomes its competitive antagonist. The medication effectively prevents spasm of the bronchi due to breathing with cigarette smoke, cold air, activity of different agents which cause spasm of bronchi associated with influence of n.vagus.
